CVM National Welcomes Pittsburgh to the Fold
The Pittsburgh CVM program will be the 47th CVM site on the map, and the second site in Pennsylvania! The Traveler’s Aid will be the host agency for CVM for Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.
Traditionally Traveler’s Aid has provided emergency transportation assistance to runaways, frail and confused elderly, abused women and children, the victimized as well as those attempting to relocate for job searches. TA has a history of providing Greyhound bus tickets, gasoline assistance, food funds and shelter referrals. Today Traveler’s Aid manages a host of local transportation assistance programs including the Mobile Moms Program (prenatal visits), the Medical Transportation Program (bus rides to hospitals, dentists, doctors and behavioral health care), the Employment and Training Program (transportation to employment training programs, job searches and new jobs) the Behavioral Health Program (increasing access to mental health and substance abuse programs for the uninsured) and the CYF program (helping clients of the Children, Youth and Families Program to get to parenting classes, visitations and job searches). They are in a unique position to provide CVM services to the community given their position in the network of service providers for Allegheny County.
