CSRA Community Voice Mail Awarded $19,965
South Carolina "Rural Communities Compassion Grant"
CSRA (Central Savannah River Area) Community Voice Mail, a program of the Aiken County HELP LINE, was awarded a grant to help the program expand its free voice mail service statewide. CSRA CVM will focus on expanding service to the rural counties of Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Calhoun and Orangeburg. With migration to the Unity System in the fall, CVM looks towards serving a broad cross-section of both urban and rural South Carolina. Congratulations!
CSRA CVM Awarded $5,000 Capacity Building Grant
CSRA CVM has been named a recipient of a 2006 Capacity Building Grant awarded by the CVM National Office. The grant will allow CSRA to work toward statewide expansion, focusing on Columbia, Greenville and Charleston.
Says Jennifer Brandon, Exec. Dir. of CVM National, "The CSRA program is the only one of its kind serving the entire state of South Carolina - where 2000 census data reports that 63,775 residences lack telephone service. This effort will enable CSRA CVM to offer the lifeline of free voicemail to those most in need." Congratulations.
Aiken CVM Assists Multiple Surrounding Communities
Utilizing 800 numbers and local partnerships, the Aiken CVM program provided free voice-mail to evacuees in Columbia, Aiken and Anderson, SC. Working with employment agencies, the Red Cross and various temporary housing venues, the Aiken staff reached out across the state to help those most in need.
Golden Phone Award for Exemplary Contribution
The Community Voice Mail (“CVM”) Golden Phone Award is given annually to recognize the contributions of outstanding CVM sites. The Aiken CSRA program was honored for its exemplary contribution to both its community and to the National CVM Federation as a whole.
The CSRA (Central Savannah River Area) Community Voice Mail program was singled out for its service to individuals in need, as well as for demonstrating leadership at the national level by developing strategic initiatives, sponsoring regionalization efforts and collaborating with other sites to increase service and efficiencies.

Cam Varner and Amy Smith of Aiken CVM receive the "Golden Phone Award" from Jenn Brandon, National Office Executive Director.
